O.K. Time to go, so let’s pick up

Claire keeps playing and Grayson gets out of the toy box, picks up a toy and also keeps playing. “Please help me pick up toys because we have to go back to your house now.” Grayson looks down saying in low voice he doesn’t want to help. I get down on his level, eye to eye, sharing, “If I came to your house and got all your toys out, then left without helping to put them away, how would YOU feel?” He looked at me directly, looked down, said, “bad” then started picking up toys. “Thanks, Grayson, I’m so glad you are helping and understand why it is important.” And, yes, Claire helped a wee bit in her own way.
